Between the 7:th and the 11:th of May 1994 the second Video Olympiade
was held on the cruiser M/S Kristina Regina. It was an opportunity for video
and tv-media people from all over the world to get together and exchange experiences
and get new contacts. The olympiade was arranged by "Sambandet" in Stockholm,
Sweden.
The delegation that represented Finland on the conference was Lucas Snellman
and myself from Malax TV and Jan Sundqvist from Nykarleby TV. During the cruise
there were held workgroups, screening-sessions and lots of other activities
onboard for the participants.Competitions for the best videoproduction in
different cathegories were also held.
The cruise started in Copenhagen, Denmark and from there it went
on to Gothenburg, Sweden. And after that Oslo, Norway was the
destination, finally after five days M/S Kristina Regina was back in Copenhagen.
At every destination sightseeings were arranged. Furthermore local & public
access tv-stations and media centers were visited. This gave a quite good
view of the local-tv activities in scandinavia.
The Video Olympiade was a great experience and it, amongst other things,
showed us all that no matter what corner of the world we were from, we are
all alike. The theme of the olympiade was "the global family", and I think
that we all felt the we had become part of that family after the days we cruised
in scandinavia.
